2008 10th Annual Pool and International Results

AL LAMBERT TOPS POOL CHECKER TOURNEY IN SOUTH BEND,
RUSH ADDAIR TAKES CLASS B; THOMPSON & BELL TIE BIG BOARD
Former National Champion Al Lambert, of suburban Chicago, took first place in
the 10th Annual Pool Checkers Festival in South Bend, Indiana, on Oct. 25,
2008. Fellow Top Master Charles "Pecan" Thompson finished his games quickly,
winning 9 and drawing 11 without a single loss to take the lead with 29 points,
but Lambert steadily and coolly kept grinding out the wins all day to catch and
surpass the leader by evening. Lambert won 12 and drew 7 for 31 points, with
only one loss to third-place Clorius "Mongoose" Lay, who was third at 24.
Rush "West Virginia" Addair, Indianapolis, dominated the Class B section with
22 points. He was followed by Ernest Lee and Andrew "Twin" Young, with 19 each.
The total of 19 Pool Checker players set a new attendance record for the South
Bend tourney, now in its tenth year. This was the first time the group was
split into two divisions.
Thompson and Arthur "Sonny" Bell tied for first in the International or
Big-Board tournament on Sunday, Oct. 26, tying with each other and beating all
the rest. Total attendance of only 5 made for a quiet day on Sunday after all
the excitement of Saturday.
Scoring counted 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw. Pool Checkers had a double
Round Robin, International single. Tournament Director - Roger Blaine.
